Lily Lloyd Burkhalter was born in Amiens, France (1991) and raised in various parts of the US. Her work, which combines narrative and textile design, has been published in The Common, Ploughshares, Gulf Coast, The Missouri Review, and elsewhere. A Pulitzer Center Reporting Fellow, she holds a BA in Poetry Writing from the University of Virginia and an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she was a New Artist Society Scholar. She has worked as an alterations tailor, a freelance translator, and the studio and research assistant of Guggenheim Fellow visual artist Anne Wilson. Currently based in Lille (FR), she coaches design students and teaches humanities courses in a number of French universities while continuing to study weaving and research textiles. She is at work on a memoir-in-essays on textiles, loss, and language and the search to find her mother, as well as a bilingual novel about a kimono and filmmaking.
